Lakes & Water in the Austrian Alps

Alpine Lakes – Pure Clarity and Space

In the Austrian Alps, water appears differently.

Not as spectacle, but as clarity.
Deep blue lakes reflect the surrounding mountains, while quiet shores create the feeling that time slows down.

Within easy reach of Julisam, several of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Austria unfold. These landscapes combine crystal-clear water, open alpine horizons and the calm atmosphere of mountain summer.

Swimming, boating or simply watching the changing light across the water becomes part of the rhythm of alpine life. Early mornings often bring mirror-like reflections on the lake surface, while warm evenings invite long walks along quiet shores.

The lakes surrounding Julisam form a natural counterpart to the privacy of the estate itself. They offer space, movement and nature — always framed by the dramatic scenery of the Austrian Alps.

Water Activities

Lake Zell – Sailing, Swimming & Summer Energy

One of the most iconic lakes of the region is Lake Zell (Zeller See), located about thirty minutes from the estate.

Set beneath the glacier-covered Kitzsteinhorn, the lake creates a rare alpine combination: warm summer water surrounded by high mountain scenery.

During summer the lake becomes a centre for water experiences:

  • swimming in clear alpine water
  • sailing with steady mountain winds
  • stand-up paddling and electric boating
  • lakeside promenades and bathing areas

Despite its popularity, the lake still offers many peaceful corners where the mountains remain the dominant presence.

For many guests, a day at Lake Zell combines active moments on the water with quiet relaxation along the shore. Small harbours, cafés and natural bathing areas create a varied yet balanced atmosphere.

Hidden Alpine Lakes and Quiet Water Worlds

Beyond the larger lakes, the surrounding mountains reveal numerous smaller alpine waters.

Hidden mountain lakes, quiet reservoirs and reflective alpine ponds appear along hiking trails and alpine valleys. Many of these waters remain almost untouched and offer an entirely different experience compared to the more famous destinations.

Here the alpine summer slows down:

  • peaceful lakeside walks
  • mountain reflections at sunset
  • quiet picnic spots surrounded by nature
  • crystal-clear streams flowing through alpine meadows

These places often become personal discoveries — small landscapes where nature and silence define the experience.
